We discussed Polish geography and answered questions in our notes. Class ended with the CNN Student News.
Today we began our study of Central and Eastern Europe. After watching the CNN Student News, we took turns reading Chapter 18 Introduction to Central Europe. Students answered questions in their notes. The assignment for Wednesday is to read Chapter 19.1 Poland.
Today is the last day of the 1st Quarter. Students took the test over Chapters 16 & 17.
We visited Venice today with Rick Steves. Before watching the film we defined/identified the vocabulary terms. Students completed the film guide while watching the film.
We finished watching the Barcelona/Catalunya film today. Students completed the film guide and turned it in. We began reading Chapter 17.2 Italy together, defining terms and discussing the text.
Students spent the first ten minutes of class reading their first issue of New York Times Upfront magazine. We will sometimes read articles from this that pertain to our study of World Geography, and other times just enjoy reading about current events, issues and people.
We watched a Rick Steves' travel video today about Barcelona and Catalonia. Students answered questions on a film guide as we watched. Before the video began, we defined the vocab terms together with students using their devices to find some information. We have about 9 more minutes of this film to watch on Friday. We began class a few minutes late today so that Subito could rehearse for a few minutes in the gym for the Fall Concert.
After watching the CNN Student News, we discussed the rubric for the European Country research assignment. We also discussed plagiarism, how to take research notes and write the assignment based on those notes. Today we begin our study of Chapter 17: Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. We read the first part of section 1 together, stopping to explain terms and make some comparisons between Spain and Southern CA. This morning we watched a Rick Steves travel video about the Swiss Alps. Students defined vocabulary and answered questions on a corresponding handout. They chose the date the European Country Research Assignment will be due - Wednesday, October 14.
Students took a 9-point quiz over part of Chapter 16 this morning. Then we visited Berlin in a Rick Steves' travel video. We defined vocaulary terms used in the film and students answered questions based on the film, with me helping them at times. Hint to the wise - be ready for another quiz tomorrow over other parts of the chapter.
