We watched the CNN Student News, then reviewed last week's Socrative Chapter 1 quiz together. Chapter 3 discusses population growth, languages and how & why humans have settled various regions. After a brief introduction to the chapter, students spent 15 minutes reading.
We watched a film about world population growth, discussed what we had learned, then watched it one more time. Students wrote and turned in an exit ticket with a brief summary of what they learned from the film. EXTRA CREDIT - the first five people to email me the 2014 population of the United States will receive five extra credit points.

We took a 15-point Socrative quiz on devices. Check RenWeb to see your score. Class ended with the CNN Student News, which included a look back at Hurricane Katrina on its 10th anniversary. Students spent most of class answering questions on the Five Themes of Geography (pp. 38-42 in your textbook) and completed the latitude and longitude map assignment. We listened to some world fusion music by Shadowfax.
Quiz over Chapter 1 on Friday - remember to bring your devices. The class spent 15 minutes reading from Chapter 1. I am very pleased with your ability to quietly focus - thank you! We learned how to use Socrative today by defining three terms from Chapter 1. The quiz on Friday will be multiple-choice using Socrative. Be sure to bring your laptop/tablet/phone.
We reviewed the meaning of latitude, longitude, Equator and Prime Meridian. Then students worked on an assignment labeling these on a world map, then plotting locations of cities around the world. This assignment is due at the beginning of class on Thursday. We watched the CNN Student News during the last 10 minutes while working on the assignment. Students completed the 2015 Summer News assignment and turned it in. After prayer, students used computer/tablet/phone to visit this Geography Website. We learned to look for assignments on the Home page, download the syllabus and other materials on the Downloads page, read what we did in class on this Blog, and email assignments on the Turn In Assignments page.
We read through most of the syllabus. Our first reading/study assignment is on the Home page. I'm sorry we ran out of time to watch the CNN Student News. Freshmen, I'm glad you're at RAA this year. My ambition is to help each of you reach your goals. Please feel free to talk to me at school or send an email anytime you have questions or concerns.
