Hi fellow Geographers. Geography is a one semester class in which you will learn more about selected regions and countries. Your textbook reading assignments are listed on the Home page, where you will also find your other assignments throughout the semester. I will usually blog about what we did in class each day. The blog is a great resource if you miss a class.
PowerPoints and other documents are available for you on the DOWNLOADS page. You will sometimes turn in digital assignments (e.g., Word or PowerPoint files) through the TURN IN ASSIGNMENTS page. There are five things you should bring to class each day:

We've been studying China for the past couple of classes. Today, students answered questions ethnicity and language. We watched a brief video explaining the use of ideograms in Chinese writing. We also discussed religion: Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism.
Students compoleted an Everyday Edit on Paul Revere. Tim Santos (RAA Class of 2016) spoke to the class about college. He shared his college experience and students asked questions.
We are beginning our last to activites in Geo.
Students studied a bit for today's quest over Chapter 23.5 & the Global Oil Trade. We traded and graded the quest, then watched two British Christmas adverts. We also learned that next Wednesday, December 21, is the Winter Solstice, meaning it is the shortest day of the year and the first day of winter.
Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas Season! See you next year. Students took the Middle East map test today. We watched the CNN Student News, which covered the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Quiz tomorrow over Chapter 23.
After watching the CNN Student News, students learned how to read the 2016 NY Times Upfront Alamanc. We started an assignment finding information about the Middle East using the alamanc. We also reveiwed vocabulary from Chapter 23.
Students spent about 15 minutes completing their Middle East maps. We then discussed the history described in Chapter 23.1 I led them through the highpoints of the text. We also discussed current events in Aleppo and Mosul, located them on our maps and watched a little news coverage about events there.
Today we began our study of Chapter 23. Students had 15 minutes at the beginning of class to finish the Geoquest: Europe assignment we started Monday or read in their textbook. Then we discussed the three Abrahamic Faiths, followed by the five Pillars of Islam. Students had be few minutes to begin completing political and physical maps of the Middle East.
One of our students presented information from their trip to Maui over Thanksgiving Break. Thank you for teaching the class!
We used a GeoQuest handout to review things we've learned this year: determining absolute location and remembering things to see and do in various European cities. We will finish this assignment in class this week. Our next unit of study is the Middle East. Read and study Chapter 23 this week. |
