We annotated the rest of the sites in Manhattan today, then students either finished labeling their maps or studied them in preparation for a quiz next week.
I've found that many freshmen don't quite understand how to use latitude and longitude in finding positions on a globe. We reviewed the basic terms and concepts today and will use those in plotting positions on Wednesday. We also watched part of the CNN Student News, till we ran out of class time. We watched a brief Expedia video about New York today. After that I led students through our New York map assignment, marking and labeling sites and bodies of water on their Borough map and annotating some of these. Students used maps on their smart phones/tablet/laptops in completing this. We labeled and annotated streets in Manhattan. Continue marking and labeling areas and sites in Manhattan. We will annotate some of these on Tuesday.
Be sure you are keeping up with your first reading assignment, Chapter 1. Read this blog to review what we did in class. If you miss a class, check here and on the assignments page before you return to school. I will occasionally post extra credit questions and further information in the blog.
Best wishes in your high school studies. You can always email me with questions about class - see your syllabus for my email address |
